Gallery press release:
Lost Farm Festival is together with art students from Mykhailo Boychuk Kyiv State Academy working on the exhibtion «HIDE and SEEK» at Gallery Imagine Point in Kyiv. Anastasiia Kurchevska // Anna Voroniuk // Bohdana Kuznetsova // Anna Mokhonko // Oleksii Semerynskiy the group of students took part in Lost Farm Festival this summer in Denmark under the guidance of their teacher, Oleksandr Bogomaz.
At the festival, they launched the Safe House project, developed by and in close collaboration with art lead Sahar Jamili, through the festival’s Ukrainian-Danish exchange program, which aims to strengthen cultural ties between young artists internationally.
The exhibition “HIDE and SEEK” in Kyiv creates a safe space where play and memory, anxiety and calm intertwine in a single experience.
The main focus is on anchors of security and grounding that help a person find inner peace and feel safe even in times of war and complete danger. Children’s hideouts — a symbol of lightness, trust, and play — coexist with a reality where even the most reliable “hideout” becomes a shelter.
But this experience reveals not only tension, but also the image of home as a place of strength, a blanket as protection, warm memories, and familiar rituals that restore balance. HIDE and SEEK
1… 2… 3… 4… Leaning against trees with your eyes closed, you count when you can start looking for your friends in places known only to you… 5… 6… 7… You hear short runs and quiet laughter, indicating that someone still doesn’t know which hiding place to choose for themselves. You also know that after your walk, your mom will call you home for delicious cherry dumplings, and you will rush home to enjoy them and watch evening cartoons wrapped in a blanket… 8… 9… 10… All the sounds finally fade away, and you go out in search. If you didn’t hide, it’s not my fault! The sound of sirens. They say it’s a high-speed one. You have 10 seconds to hide… 10… 9… 8…
You rush out of the apartment, heading for the shelter in your basement… 7… 6… 5… You hear children crying as their parents rush them to the shelter, you hear your neighbors arguing, and most importantly, you feel the adrenaline pulsing in your temples. 4… 3… 2… 1… By some miracle, you find yourself in a basement equipped as a shelter just as the first explosion sounds… 0… Now all you have is a long wait and the same blanket that has been with you since childhood.
As of now, you are finally safe. And the shelter is your protective fortress, your temporary home.
